Remember folks - the third meeting of each month will be for break out meetings; there will be a speaker at the fourth meeting which is when we would encourage prospective members to attend (this will be followed by a council meeting); the first meeting of each month will generally be a business meeting when feedback from the break out and council meetings will be discussed. It was considered that the business meetings would be suitable for Rotary Members only.

David Judge presented letters from Frank Devlin, Rotary International President, to Harry Royle and (in Christine's absence) to Kim Collier.

Una Jones gave a very interesting job talk telling us about her position on the Examination Board at Edexel, and the path she took to get there.

Breakfast Meeting - Wednesday 19th December

We had a special Christmas, Champagne, smoked salmon and scrambled egg breakfast on the Wednesday before Christmas. Mother Santa distributed presents to all and sundry - Christine as usual went completely over the top and provided presents for visiting Rotarians - now Christine is not the only one with a clapper.

Many thanks to Murray Evans for entertaining us, the visiting Rotarians and guests to an extremely amusing talk. How did he manage to be so funny without offending anyone?

Best wishes to all for a very happy Christmas and a successful New Year.

Breakfast Meeting - Wednesday 5th December

Welcome to Rotary visitor Mike Jones who is our Liaison Member from Forum, also to potential members Allistair Hunter and David Drake.

Vicky is planning a meeting for those interested in the International Committee. Suggestions have already been made to support the Esther Benjamin Trust and sponsor a child.

Mary suggested that we should take it as read that we all wish each other a very Happy Christmas and that Christmas cards are not required to endorse this. Skin flint or what? Nobody objected though!

Additional badges can be obtained if members would like one for visiting other clubs. See Mary.

Breakfast Meeting - Wednesday 21st November

Our very first meeting as THE ROTARY CLUB OF COLCHESTER CENTURION. Welcome to some regulars - Frank Collins (Honourary Member), John Russell and Harry Royle; also for their first visit Michael Dunne and Stuart Francis.

We all enjoyed a pat on the back following our hugely successful Charter night and then ...... what! more presents?........

Harrry Royle gave a wonderful witty speech celebrating the formation of the Centurion Club and drawing a parallel with gifts brought to Bethlehem (a far flung outpost in the Roman Empire) 2000 years ago to celebrate a special event. He presented Christine with a plaque to depict each year's Club President and then gave every founder member as exquisite miniature Centurion helmet in a special presentation box, together with a copy of "Frank Talk", Frank Devlyn's book about Rotary. This was a total surprise to everyone. The whole club was overwhelmed by his generosity and kindness. Thank you Harry.

We have been invited by Colchester Club to join them for their 5th Wednesday of the month at the Officers Club.

Next Meeting - Wednesday 28th November in the Classics Bar at Leisure World See the Events page for more information

Charter Night - Wednesday 14th November

David Liddiatt, President RIBI gave a welcoming address and along with Graham Thornton presented Rotary Badges to the Founder Members. Gifts were presented from visiting clubs and Christine took everything in her stride with her sparkling reply. A toast from Kim Collier to the visiting Rotarians and Guests and a response from John Russell, President of Colchester Forum preceeded the closing toast by Christine.
Lawrence Wood was magnificent in his role of Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies.
Congratulations to the Charter Night Sub Committee, Chaired by Kim. Well done to Rachel for her behind the scenes printing, organising, reorganising, arranging, re-arranging, reprinting ..... you get the picture. Una has shown her talent for flower arranging, Angus has definitely won himself the job of chief label printer.
